In her role as Director, HR Shared Services, Nicholle is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational support and advice to all Optus divisions nationally. David Caspari is the Vice President of Enterprise and Government for Optus Business.He is an experienced leader within the Telecommunications and IT sectors across Australia and Asia Pacific.
Rachel Burke is the Operations General Manager of Exner Education. With over 20 years’ experience within the Engineering and Construction Industry in commercial management and program delivery across infrastructure, multi-disciplinary projects and telecommunications. Rachel is currently project managing the delivery of technology enhanced immersive training courses for construction and rail.
Ms Tamilyn Brennan has been a member of the Jobs Queensland Board since its establishment in 2016. Her expertise is in shaping and delivering employment and training, workplace relations and Indigenous strategies and initiatives, particularly in regional locations. Tamilyn has extensive public sector experience and currently operates her own consulting practice in Far North Queensland.

Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Ismail Bin Abd Aziz is currently the Director General for the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (DPCCE) under the Ministry of Education (MOE),Malaysia. He was previously the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)
Mark provides leadership and advice to the Wodonga TAFE Board on establishing objectives, policies, priorities and plans for the Institute. Mark works with the Wodonga TAFE Board, the Higher Education and Skills Group, community and industry partners to deliver against strategic and operational objectives for the Institute. The CEO ensures that the strategic objectives of the Institute are achieved in a manner that best serves the greater Albury Wodonga community and the north-east region of Victoria.
Michaelia Cash was sworn in as the Minister for Small and Family Business, Skills and Vocational Education on 28 August 2018 for the Morrison Government, having previously been the Minister for Jobs and Innovation in the Turnbull Government, and before that Minister for Employment and Minister for Women from September 2015 to December 2017. Michaelia was first elected to the Senate for Western Australia in 2007.
Doug Cameron was elected as a Labor Senator for New South Wales at the 2007 Federal election. He was previously National Secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union. Prior to nearly 30 years as a full-time union official, he worked as a fitter in the steel, ship repair, vehicle and power industries. Doug played a key role in developing industrial and political strategies designed to improve employment security, wages, skills and industry development in the manufacturing industry. Since his election to the Senate, Doug has continued with his campaigning style around issues including marriage equality, the rights of welfare recipients, equal pay in the social services sector, income inequality and increased job opportunities for Australian workers and industry in the resources sector. Following the July 2016 federal election, Doug was appointed Shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness and Shadow Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships.
Andrea is the Senior Educator in the Teaching Quality Centre at South West Institute of TAFE and is currently seconded to the Regional TAFE Alliance project. Andrea is a teacher of Graphic Design, Media and Visual Arts and runs a design and art practice.
Prior to joining Chisholm, Amanda was the Director of Vocational Education and Training (Quality) at Victoria University, where she had held a number of key leadership roles focused on learning and teaching innovation and quality. As the Executive Director, Teaching and Learning at Chisholm Institute, her focus is on the implementation of an educational excellence framework supports educators in facilitated learning in both virtual and physical learning environments.
Professor John Buchanan is Head of the Discipline of Business Analytics at the University of Sydney Business School. Previously, between 1988 and 1991 he was part of the team that undertook the first Australian Workplace Industrial Relations Survey (AWIRS). In 1991, he joined the Workplace Research Centre (formerly acirrt) and served as its Director from 2005 – 2014.
Robert Adams has a deep understanding of the skill needs of industry and challenges that face stakeholders in the sectors supported by Australian Industry Standards (AIS). He had extensive senior management experience prior to being appointed CEO of TLISC in 2011. He has successfully led the company’s transition to AIS as a Skills Service Organisation supporting 11 Industry Reference Committees (IRCs). Recently AIS was given responsibility for providing support services to the new ‘Digital Transformation IRC’.
Justine is a passionate educator, having worked in the VET sector for 14 years – firstly as a teacher before moving into management. Justine’s completion of the Masters of Education by Research has fuelled her love of learning and belief that scholarly activity and in particular applied research has a critical place in the VET sector.
Dr Fred Gibbons is the President and CEO at Northern College, Canada. Prior to assuming the role of President, Dr. Gibbons held various senior positions with the college including Executive Regional Director; Executive Director, Staff Development and Human Resources; Registrar; and Principal of the Haileybury School of Mines.
A recognised leader in the Australian technology industry and business community, John is committed to the country’s digital future, with a deep passion for customers and a proven ability to translate vision and strategy into execution and results. As Managing Director, John leads Optus’ enterprise, business and government organisation.
Gayle has a strong connection with rural and regional communities. Apart from being an advocate for regional infrastructure and employment, Gayle is also a strong supporter of environmental sustainability, gender representation, social inclusion and community development. She was the first woman to become a State Secretary of the Vehicle Division of the traditionally male-dominated Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, serving in this role from 1993 to 2006, and also as the Federal President from 2000 to 2006. Gayle also served on the Executive of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) from 2000 to 2006. In 2006, Gayle was elected to represent Western Victoria in the Legislative Council. Gayle was appointed as Minister for Training and Skills, and Minister for Corrections in November 2016.
Cassie Puruntatameri, 21, is an Aboriginal woman from the Tiwi Islands, NT. She moved to Melbourne in January 2016, and 7 months later commenced a 12-month Certificate III in Business traineeship with the Department of Education and Training. Cassie has since completed her traineeship and is now an Executive Assistant. Being a recent early school leaver in 2016 with not many skills and experience in industry, Cassie thought that there was no hope in ever getting a job other than ‘check-out chick’. Cassie says skills and on-the-job training has made a great impact on her confidence
Nicolette Barnard is the Head of HR at Siemens Australia and New Zealand. She began her career in HR in 1994 and joined Siemens in July 2001 in South Africa where she held various Human Resources roles with her last function being the Head of HR for Africa. She joined Siemens Australia in June 2011.
Jody Hamilton is the Lead Facilitator for LIFT Social Enterprise and Director of JMP Consulting, with more than 20 years’ experience working in the areas of employment and economic development, including 12 years as a senior executive in organisations in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
Jody and the whole LIFT team draw on experiences in strategy, management and operations in economic and social development, where they have primarily worked in the areas of youth, Maori and Indigenous business development and transitions to employment.
In her spare time, Jody wrangles her six-year-old son Paimako and tries to guide her 21-year-old daughter Moana as she navigates her way into the world of work.
Professor Stephen Parker AO is the lead Education partner in KPMG Australia. Previously he was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra. He has written extensively on tertiary education, including polytechnics and the idea of an “omniversity”. Recently he was the main author of “Reimagining Tertiary Education: From Binary System to Ecosystem”.
Jenny Dodd is the CEO of TasTAFE, Tasmania’s public provider delivering education and training to 26,000 students and servicing Tasmania’s employers and industry. Jenny joined TasTAFE in February 2018 from the position of Chief Academic Officer and Executive lead for Marketing, Brand and Communication, TAFE Queensland. TAFE Queensland is one of Australia’s largest Registered Training Organisations with over 120,000 students.
André joined TDA after having worked in roles in the postsecondary education policy and quality assurance sectors in Australia and in Canada, most recently with the ACT Government. With the Ontario College Quality Assurance Service (OCQAS), André performed program validation, oversaw institutional quality reviews, and worked with Ontario’s 24 publicly-assisted colleges to ensure the appropriate interpretation and implementation of quality standards.
Brad Davies is a Director and Principal at Vector Consulting and brings considerable experience in the role of technology and innovation in public sector institutions, including TAFE. Brad has spent more than a decade developing government policy and corporate strategy and has facilitated a number of overseas study tours to the US, Europe and Asia focused on the role of technology in vocational and higher education. Brad is particularly focused on the role that TAFE institutions might play in the digital economy, and where new sources of competitive advantage might come from.
Mary Campbell was appointed Interim CEO of TAFE Queensland in late 2017. She has many years of experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector along with a wealth of knowledge and exceptional leadership skills. Mary has spent more than 25 years working in the VET sector and is passionate about all aspects of the business, but most importantly about creating real outcomes for VET students and their employers.
Jen Bahen is the Director of International Engagement at TAFE Directors Australia, supporting Australian TAFEs access offshore opportunities and advocating to Government of behalf of the TAFE network. Jen has worked in education for 17 years, including stints offshore in Beijing, Bangkok and Shanghai.
Duncan is the Managing Director of South Regional TAFE in Western Australia. Prior to his current role, Duncan served for 15 years in the Australian Army, with numerous postings in Eastern Australia and operational deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Duncan is the Chair of Regional Development Australia – South West and the President of his local Returned and Services League sub-branch.
Rick Ede joined Chisholm as CEO in March 2018. Prior to joining Chisholm, Rick was the CEO of New Zealand’s largest Institute of Technology, Unitec; and had a successful tenure with the Australian Government’s CSIRO. With his passion for education and success as a CEO, Rick is recognised as a high-performing and future-focused leader.
Wayne Wheeler has over 15 years of experience representing the U.S. community college sector through his work at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), which is the premiere advocacy organization for the nation’s nearly 1,200 community colleges and one of the “Big Six” presidentially-based higher education associations covering all of U.S. higher education.
Lisa Line has held the CEO position since December 2013 and is a board member of VDC. She was previously the Acting CEO and Deputy CEO/COO, and has held various senior positions at The Gordon including Director Organisation Development, Acting Executive Director Corporate Services and Senior Manager Human Resources. Lisa’s former roles also include COO Plymouth University, UK; Group HR Manager (Victoria/Tasmania) with the Just Group; and several senior HR and general management roles with the John Lewis Partnership, UK.
Terry Durant is the Managing Director of South Metropolitan TAFE. Terry is passionate about the value and role of quality training and education in equipping individuals with skills for employment or further education. In 2016, Terry led the amalgamation of two major training colleges under the Training Sector Reform Project. Her leadership during this time guided the college toward a transformative period of driving strategic change, evolving staff culture and consolidating business processes
Trevor Schwenke has more than 22 years’ experience in key leadership roles in the vocational education and training, higher education, school and corporate sectors. Prior to his appointment as Bendigo Kangan Institute CEO, Trevor was the General Manager of TAFE Queensland South West. In this role, Trevor was recognised as the 2013 Queensland Professional Manager of the Year by the Australian Institute of Management.
Christine Robertson a Board Member of TAFE Directors Australia and was appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor Vocational Education and Training (VET) at Charles Darwin University in October 2015 where she oversees the strategic operations of the Faculty of Vocational Education and Training. Prior to this she was Deputy Director VET at RMIT University. Christine has extensive experience in workforce development through vocational education and training and has led the design and implementation of a range of innovative training partnerships with government, commercial and community based enterprises both nationally and internationally.
Helen Kronberger has over 16 years of experience in international education in the TAFE and higher education sectors. Helen has worked in-country across South East Asia, North East Asia, Europe, USA, UK and Scandinavia on behalf of Australian education providers, working closely with government, secondary schools and student sponsorship bodies to achieve sustainable growth.
As CEO, Mark Fidge is responsible for implementing the Institute’s strategic direction and ensuring efficiency across the Institute to meet the requirements of Government, enterprises, individuals, and the community. In his role, Mark is committed to improving the region’s educational attainment rates and reducing youth unemployment across the Great South Coast by attracting and retaining students in a supportive learning environment.
Joanne has more than 30 years’ experience in risk management and human resources. She was the first female to be appointed to the Board of Directors for the Bridgestone Australia Group of companies and was responsible for finance, IT, legal, risk management and human resources Joanne has vast experience in managing industrial relations and improving operational efficiencies and is well known for her change management expertise. Most recently Joanne has been appointed to the Automotive Transformation Taskforce Board. She holds an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from the Australian Institute of Business and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Leanne Cover is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT), the largest government provider of vocational education and training institution in Canberra, the Australian capital, with more than 22,000 enrolments annually. CIT provides programs and services in a wide range of industry disciplines at Australian Qualifications Framework levels 1-7. Leanne has undertaken this role since February 2015. Leanne has an extensive background in the education and training sector spanning almost 20 years
Nikki Hind is the Founder of Blind Grit & possibly Australia’s 1st legally blind fashion designer. Blind Grit is inspirational athleisure wear created by those who conquer challenges, for those who are ready for one! Nikki says that TAFE gave her the skills to pursue her childhood dream: fashion design.
Nicole Broe joined Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI) in 2013, and was appointed to the Director of Food & Fibre at in February 2017 with overall responsibility for the Food & Fibre Centre of Excellence. Nicole has been instrumental in establishing key partnerships with industry and the regional Food and Fibre TAFE collaboration network that has seen BKI continue to demonstrate growth in delivering great outcomes for students
Carrie Roche has worked in a variety of public sector roles in the development and implementation of state, national and international policies for vocational education and training. She has also been a major contributor in setting the strategic direction of the Australian Government’s international skills engagement and cooperation agenda.
Kym Nguyen heads the client, insights and commercial teams at QS Enrolment Solutions. Her team put data in the middle of everything they do and commit to share their analyses and insights with the APAC VET and Higher Education sector empowering institutions to effectively engage with and convert prepared future students.
Yasmin is CEO of SkillsIQ, a Skills Service Organisation which develops national vocational standards on behalf of 18 ‘people-facing’ Industry Reference Committees which represent the skills needs of almost 50% of the Australian workforce. She has undertaken international consulting work for the governments of Peru, Vietnam and Thailand, and APEC Human Resources Committee. An experienced negotiator and mediator, she is adjunct to the Australian Graduate School of Management, lecturing in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. Previous roles include inaugural NSW Small Business Commissioner and Associate Commissioner for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and Non-executive Director of Le Cordon Bleu Australia. Yasmin is currently on the Boards of Micro-X, Self Employed Australia and the University of Technology Sydney’s Master of Business Administration Industry Advisory Board.
Michelle Hoad is the Managing Director at North Metropolitan TAFE. Michelle’s organisational/industrial psychology background has led to management and leadership roles in the implementation of quality systems, governance and culture change in a higher education and training context.
Megan Lilly is the Head of Workforce Development for The Australian Industry Group and responsible for the development of education and training policy as well as member service delivery across the breadth of workforce development. Previously the CEO of Business Services Training Australia, Megan also held several senior management positions across Victorian TAFE institutes. Megan holds a Masters in Education Policy and Administration and is currently involved with the Australian Industry Skills Committee, Worldskills Australia, Australian College of Educators, Salvation Army Disability Employment Services, and the Naval Shipbuilding College.
Peta Skujins is the Director of the Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service. Prior to this she worked at the National Centre for Vocational Education Research, after completing a PhD in Psychology. Her research interests include youth transitions between education and the labour market, and pathways through education systems.
Working in ICT for 12 years, Emma works in Cisco Corporate Affairs. She manages The Cisco Networking Academy Program in ANZ & Pacific Islands. The program develops ICT skills and creates a pipeline of talent in entry level roles. Emma supports Partners in the secondary school sector, Vocational Education, Higher Education and Non-For-Profit Organisations.
Jennifer is charged with ensuring quality learning and educational leadership across Box Hill Institute Group and providing high level strategic advice to the Chief Executive Officer on initiatives aimed at improving academic outcomes, the development of innovative education and overseeing the Box Hill Group approach to leadership of academic quality.
Anissa Jones has worked in the education sector for 16 years, with several post-graduate qualifications in Education, Educational Leadership and Vocational Education. She has authored several articles on Aboriginal perspectives in education and professional development and has a strong background in curriculum design and development and Google for Education.
Caroline Hughes, Director CIT Yurauna has 30+ years leading Indigenous VET. Caroline has consistently demonstrated high level organisational skills to achieve key performance measures. CIT Yurauna has an excellent reputation in achieving outcomes in closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians – constantly achieving new records for educational achievements for Indigenous people.
Ian Hamilton has over 30 years of experience in human resources, in the Financial and High Tech industries. As part of the APJC Senior Leadership Team, Ian is responsible for over 21,000 employees across 18 locations. Ian drives organizational performance and business results by optimizing the capabilities of the workforce, while maintaining a high level of employee engagement. Prior to joining Cisco, Ian held several leadership roles including Head of HR GE Capital Australia and New Zealand. Ian holds a Graduate Diploma of Business (HR Management) from Swinburne University. He is based in Melbourne, Australia.
Julianne is the Head of Department for Creative & Design Industries which looks after Building Design, Fashion, Interior Design, Photography & Visual Arts. Julianne has been involved in multiple areas of curriculum design and development and still teaches within the Interior Design programs with a focus on Design Thinking and Design Processes. Julianne was a founding member of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) ACT Chapter and continues to represent CIT on DIA committees. Julianne feels that it is important to look at new ways of teaching and new opportunities to prepare students for industry employment now and in the future.
John Henik is the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs with Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA USA. He has been a member of Global Education Network (GEN) for twelve years. GEN members have participated in every WFCP World Congress since the New York City Conference in 2008. He currently serves on the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics Board, WFCP.
Peter Tighe was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency in August 2013. He has extensive experience in workplace health and safety issues and in tackling the hazards of asbestos containing materials as well as experience on multiple industry boards.
Sharon brings a wealth of experience to VETASSESS, having formerly held the role of Head of National Advisory for Tertiary Education Skills and Employment (NATSE) and previous to this, as a Director at KPMG. Sharon leads a team of over 180 people and is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the organisation, managing all aspects of the business to ensure strategic and operational objectives are met.
Anita Wesney is Director of Trade Skills at the Canberra Institute of Technology. Anita has a keen interest in flexible delivery for trades based programs and how best to support both apprentices and employers access quality training and assessment in the workplace.
Professor Zhang is the President of Chengdu Aeronautive Polytechnic and holds a number of leadership positions in China, including Vice chairman positions in the TVET Research Association of China, the CEAIE Vocational Education Commission and the Sichuan TVET Education Association. Professor Zhang holds an MBA from Sichuan College of Business Administration.
Professor Zhou Guozhong is a master supervisor and Vice President of Tourism College of Zhejiang. Professor Zhou is the leader of a national level teaching team majoring in the development and management of tourist sites, and an outstanding teacher of Zhejiang Province in his own right.
Steve is the Head of Department for Automotive, Metals and Logistics College. Steve has been teaching for 16 years and was a finalist in the Australian Vocational Education Trainer category in 2011. Steve is dedicated to managing and leading trainers as they transition into the automation and remote technologies.
Geoff is a chartered engineer with a diverse background in CEO roles covering not-for-profit, consulting, engineering contracting and healthcare who began his career as an engineer in the British Army. Upon immigrating to Australia, he became Chief Executive of the Association of Consulting Engineers before holding numerous leadership positions
President of Wuhan Railway Vocational College of Technology, standing director of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), Deputy Director General of Vocational Education Branch of CEAIE and vice chairman of Hubei Academy of Vocational and Technical Education, an active and sustained supporter of the Belt and Road initiative. He puts forward the idea “Where there is a high-speed railway, there is our service!”
Karen is responsible for the operation of the Ontario College Quality Assurance Service (OCQAS) where she oversees the self-regulatory quality assurance mechanisms for the public colleges in the province. Prior to joining OCQAS, Karen was Dean of the Centre for Instructional Development and Applied Research at Vancouver Community College (VCC).
Denise Amyot has dedicated her career to the Federal public administration and worked within the Northwest Territories Government. With her teams, she has aimed for excellence and sought to make a difference in the economic, social, cultural, and scientific sectors, at all levels from policy-making to program delivery and public education. Armed with her wealth of experience, she now heads non-profit Colleges and Institutes Canada, which represents all of Canada’s colleges, cegeps, and polytechnic institutes nationally and internationally.
Jack Hylands is GM of RMIT Future Skills, delivering to a vision of a community of lifelong learners, successfully navigating the world of work. Prior to RMIT, Jack was CEO of Ducere, an edtech working with universities in Australia and overseas. Jack is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and qualified as a maths teacher through TeachFirst in South London. Jack is a former management consultant across technology and strategy and is passionate about connecting industry and education to create amazing student experiences that result in great student and industry outcomes.
Dirk Van Damme is currently Head of the Innovation and Measuring Progress Division (IMEP), which covers both the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) and the Indicators of Educational Systems (INES) programme, in the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills. He holds a PhD in educational sciences from Ghent University and is also professor of educational sciences in the same university (since 1995). He was also part-time professor in comparative education at the Free University of Brussels (1997-2000) and visiting professor of comparative education at Seton Hall University, NJ, USA (2001-2008). He was general director of the Flemish Rectors’ Conference, the main advisory body for higher education policy in the Flemish part of Belgium between 2000 and 2003.He was professionally involved in educational policy development between 1992 and 2008, and served as chief of staff of Mr Frank Vandenbroucke, Flemish minister of education between 2004 and 2008.His current interests are evidence-based innovation in education, comparative analyses of educational systems, new developments in the learning sciences and knowledge management in education.
Jenni is a recognised expert in analysing and working with language, literacy and numeracy requirements in the VET sector, and an experienced facilitator, instructional designer and project manager. Jenni established JOConsultancy in 2014, after several years working as a Senior Consultant at Precision Consultancy, and prior to that at Kangan Institute and other training organisations in Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom.
Dr Axel Gerloff is Professor of International Business at DHBW Mosbach and coordinates the international relations of DHBW in its headquarter in Stuttgart. He is an Executive Board member of WACE (World Association of Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education) and a member of various national and international societies.
Mish Eastman joined Swinburne in 2013 after 13 years in senior leadership roles with TAFE Tasmania and the Tasmanian Polytechnic. Mish has strong expertise in models of education and training in collaboration with industry, focussing on the importance of challenging, future-focussed and industry-ready teaching and learning environments that meet the needs of modern learners and employers.
Eliedson Rafael de Carvalho is a civil engineering student at Instituto Federal de Alagoas – IFAL, Brazil. He has a partial completion graduation at Northern Virginia Community College, United States. Student researcher in the field of science of materials. Participated in the Youth Camp – WFCP 2016.
Gastón Ramos Velasco is a Commercial Engineer and he has worked in different service companies leading long-term projects and business strategies, supporting fundraising actions and developing resources for social institutions, among other industries. Since 2016 he has led the Employability and Community Engagement Direction at Duoc UC Professional Institute in Chile; developing the institutional management model of employability and relationship.
Jan is a highly regarded social entrepreneur, innovator, commentator and author who has spent the past 25 years growing the youth, social enterprise and innovation sectors. In 2012 she was named Australia’s inaugural Australian Financial Review and Westpac Woman of Influence. Jan has been awarded honorary degrees (honoris causa) from the University of Sydney (DLitt) and Murdoch University, Western Australia (DUniv); and was awarded membership to the Order of Australia in 2000. She is the author of Every Childhood Lasts a Lifetime (1996) and The Future Chasers (2014). Jan is currently the CEO of the Foundation for Young Australians; was previously Executive Director of Social Ventures Australia; and Founder and CEO of the CREATE Foundation.
Ricardo Paredes Molina is a Chilean Economist with a PhD in Economics from UCLA. He has tenure position in the Universidad de Chile and in the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He has published over 50 papers in journals including Economics and Education Review, Public Choice, Journal of Development Studies, and four books. Since January 2015 is President at Duoc UC.
One of the world’s leaders in her field, Wendy Perry has developed, designed and implemented systems for workforce planning and development, entrepreneurship and VET/TVET throughout her career, across Australia and working with OECD, UNESCO-UNEVOC, Bhutan, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Germany, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and the USA.
Karen is currently a lecturer at Latrobe University in Alternative Education, a frequent and well regarded presenter for the VDC and travels nationally presenting the latest research on progressing student learning and achievement to educators.
Andrew Carruthers is a Hospitality Management lecturer with 15 years’ experience in both VET and Higher Education. Currently he teaches in Holmesglen Institute’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management, with responsibility for the program’s final-year industry placement units. Prior to moving into education, Andrew worked in a variety of management roles with international hotel companies Accor and IHG.
Edward Valeau is an American Council on Education Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar; a consultant to the City of Wuixin, President Emeritus of the California Community Colleges for International Education; a former Educational Advisor; former Chairman of the American Association of Community Colleges Commission on International Education; Board of Directors of the American Council on Education Commission on International Education; and co-author. He is a senior partner with ELS LLC, a higher education executive search and interim placement firm.
Mary Faraone has extensive experience in the VET sector, working with industry, RTOs and at TAFE. Ms Faraone has been at Holmesglen since mid-2003 and in her previous role as Executive Director, Educational Development and Design, Mary was instrumental in leading the Institute’s teaching and learning, securing a number of significant national and international commercial projects and the introduction of higher education. The Institute is now widely recognised as a leader in non-university higher education delivery. Since commencing as Chief Executive in October 2013, Mary has embarked on an organisational renewal agenda which aims to build on the Institute’s history and reputation and lead the Institute in the next phase of its journey as a relevant and contemporary tertiary provider. Mary is committed to TAFE and the role of public education in social inclusion and social cohesion and ensuring TAFE thrives in the contestable market. Mary currently is member of the Victorian Ministerial Roundtable for International Education with the Minister for Training and Education and the Minister for Industry. Mary was appointed as the Victorian representative on the TDA Board in July 2015 and in October 2016 was appointed for a three year period as Chair of the TAFE Directors Australia Board.
Andreas Schleicher is Director for Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). As a key member of the OECD’s Senior Management team, he supports the Secretary-General’s strategy to produce analysis and policy advice that advances economic growth and social progress. In addition to policy and country reviews, he oversees the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the OECD Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), the OECD Skills Strategy, the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), and the development and analysis of benchmarks on the performance of education systems (INES).
Before joining the OECD, Mr. Schleicher was Director for Analysis at the International Association for Educational Achievement (IEA). He studied Physics in Germany and received a degree in Mathematics and Statistics in Australia. He is the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the “Theodor Heuss” prize, awarded in the name of the first president of the Federal Republic of Germany for “exemplary democratic engagement”. He holds an honorary Professorship at the University of Heidelberg.
Craig Robertson commenced as CEO of TAFE Directors Australia in April 2017. The organisation promotes nationally and internationally the critical role that TAFEs play in tertiary education in Australia. On behalf of its members TDA also works with global multi-lateral organisations, and with overseas governments and their industry and provider representatives to assist in the deployment of training and workforce development to enhance economic capabilities. Prior to joining TDA Craig worked in the Victorian Government in 2015 and 2016 with responsibilities for the operation of vocational education and working with Victorian universities. Craig also worked for over 30 years in the Commonwealth Government with responsibilities in national policy and program delivery relating to employment services, funding for schools and most aspects of vocational education and training. Craig was also an inaugural member of the Australian Qualifications Framework Council formed in 2011. Craig holds an Executive Masters in Public Administration and Bachelor of Education (Primary).

Since May 2011, Dr Shyamal Majumdar is Head of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre in Bonn, Germany. Before he was Director General of the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC) Manila, Philippines; Vice President of the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) and Professor at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) in Kolkata, India. He holds a Master in telecommunications engineering and a Ph.D. in educational computing. As a TVET expert, Mr. Majumdar has conducted a variety of programmes and projects in the education sector across the globe. He was an author of more than 100 research papers and a co-author for more than 20 book publications. His achievements include international awards such as IVETA Award and CPSC TVET Leadership Award.
Chancellor Lambert was born in South Korea and has lived in three continents. He is the 2017 CEO of the Year of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). He has promoted community colleges around the world and has been invited to speak in numerous international forums.
Chen Qiuming, professor of law, is the Board Chairman of Shenzhen Polytechnic. Chen presides over several committees, including the Social Science Fund Program of Guangdong Province and has published almost 40 academic papers. Chen is also a member of the Vocational Quality Education Steering Committee and Deputy Director of the Innovation & Entrepreneur Sub-committee of the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Castro-Salazar is an educator and Community College administrator. He is also an Associate Researcher, University of Arizona Center for Latin American Studies. Fulbright Administrative Scholar in Russia. Has graduate degrees in England, Holland, Mexico, and USA. Has published in English and Spanish in various international journals and edited volumes and presented at numerous national and international conferences.
Jon Black was appointed Managing Director of TAFE NSW, Australia’s largest education and training provider in December 2015. Mr Black was previously the Director-General of the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection. He has a strong background in water management and a wealth of leadership proficiency gained in his 25 year career with the Australian Army.

He undertakes labour market analysis, and provides strategic input to scholarship, TVET, and employment projects. Asami Shimoda is a research fellow of the Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation, Hiroshima University. Her study is on “International Expansion and Actual Situation of KOSEN Education System” focusing on their strategy, system and international activities in Japan and the process of its expansion to Thailand.

Rosalind Latiner Raby, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer at California State University, Northridge. She also is the Director of California Colleges for International Education, a non-profit consortium of California community colleges. Dr. Raby received her Ph.D. in the field of Comparative and International Education from UCLA.
Dawn Ward CBE is CEO and Principal of a Burton and South Derbyshire College, a high achieving technical College in the UK. Following her successful international career, Dawn has worked at an executive level in Colleges for over 20 years. She was awarded a CBE in the 2015 Queen’s New Year’s Honours for Services to Education.
Yang Gao is a Vice Director at Tianjin City Vocational College. She is an active researcher and in 2017 was awarded a research fellowship to investigate work integrated learning environments. She was recognised for her teaching excellence in 2014 when awarded first place in the National Vocational College ICT Teaching Capability Competition.
Assistant Prof Dickson Yan teaches into the BSc in Environmental Engineering and Management at THEi. Dickson will speak about approaches to vocational teaching and applied research in the VPET sector and the use of new technologies and real-world projects in preparing students for the future world of work.
Fiona Wahr, PhD. holds a newly created role at Melbourne Polytechnic to promote and support staff engagement in applied research and scholarship. Her research examines transformative educational change in learning and teaching development. Using action oriented projects, Fiona collaboratively explores engagement in and impact of authentic professional learning.
Kepreen has extensive experience working in Tonga and the wider Pacific region in policy and planning, tourism management, project management advancing human rights, gender and leadership. She has held a diverse range of roles in the Tongan VET sector with government, private sector businesses and non-government organisations. Before joining Tonga Skills Kepreen was the gender focal point in Tonga for the UN Women. She holds a Masters in Tourism from Monash University.
John is responsible for the operations of TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, the largest public provider of trade training in Queensland. John’s passion for VET stems from a long career spanning hospitality, business and trades. John leads a dedicated team supporting the training of students who choose to explore a vocational pathway.
Bannau Tiiata has worked in the vocational education sector in Kiribati for the past 15 years. Since 2008 Bannau has held senior TVET leadership roles, most recently as the Officer-in-Charge at the Kiribati Institute of Technology (KIT). In 2015 Bannau was awarded a Lecturer Fellowship and spent four months with TAFE SA. Ms Tiiata has participated on study tours and training programs in Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
I Made Suarta is a senior lecturer at the Bali State Polytechnic. He has taught business mathematics, business statistics, and computer applications in the Accounting Department. He completed the Vocational and Technical Education doctoral program in 2011 from Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia. I Made is currently doing research on employability skills.
As an immigrant herself, Nawal fully understands the issues surrounding settling into a new country. Her career guidance, marketing and skills as a Pathways Counsellor in the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) enable Nawal to provide settlement, career and study advice and assistance to newly arrived people in the community.
Tony O’Brien is a senior executive with international experience in the private sector ranging from IBM and Fletcher Building through to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. He joined Wintec in 2012 and has been directing the New Zealand – China Vocational Education and Training Model Programme (Sino -NZ Model Programme) since November 2014.
Casey O’Brien has more than 20 years of industry experience in information security, large-scale IT implementation/project management in challenging and cutting edge computing environments that include both public and private sectors. Casey’s research interests include cybersecurity competition design and practice analysis as well as scalable and cost-effective information security laboratories.
Dr. Takayoshi Maki is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Development for Education at Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC), Hiroshima University, Japan. Currently, he works with researchers and practitioners in Malawi, Zambia, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar besides Thailand. His research laboratory strives to build an atmosphere for conducting long-discussion in multiple languages including indigenous languages for study sites, Japanese, and English, and to be a collective entity of truth-seekers who are strongly motivated, operating by the motto ‘research as my daily meal.’
Dr. Shahrzad Kamyab is a lecturer in the TESOL program at University of San Diego. Currently, she’s the chair of San Diego-Tijuana sister city and instructs the staff of the Mexican Consulate in San Diego to improve their communication and writing skills in English.
Shanan Holm joined Open Polytechnic in 2010 and led the product development and direction of iQualify, a digital learning platform created by and at Open Polytechnic that serves the learning needs of a range of businesses, professional organisations, secondary schools and tertiary education providers.
Evelyn Goodwin is the Manager, VET Policy & Projects of Community Colleges Australia, responsible for professional development activities and policy development. She managed sustainability and quality assurance projects at Sydney Institute of TAFE and has coordinated Registered Training Organisation professional development activities for the NSW Department of Education and Training.
Uttam Gaulee is a faculty member in the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program at Morgan State University. He studies international higher education at the intersection of higher education policy, globalization, and multiculturalism. Dr. Gaulee also supervised the organization of national policy summit on reverse transfer and talent pipeline management. He is currently documenting the international adaptations of the American community college.
Dr. Martina Gaisch is a teacher of English, intercultural competence and diversity management at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Austria. She completed her doctoral studies in philosophy at the University of Vienna and is a certified ESOL examiner of the University of Cambridge for more than ten years . As an applied linguist and diversity manager working at a school of informatics, her main research areas are at the interface of educational sociology, higher education research and sociolinguistics.
Pierre-Luc Gagnon is a research project manager at the Centre d’initiation à la recherche et d’aide au développement durable (Research Initiation and Sustainable Development Support Centre) (CIRADD), a College center for technology transfer (CCTT) affiliated with the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles. Mr. Gagnon has also taken part in the design, development and implementation of international TVET projects, especially in the CARICOM region. Mr. Gagnon holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Political Science.

She has wide ranging experience in working with academic, industry and government stakeholders in education research, evaluation, operation, management and governance projects.
Professor Nitza Davidovitch serves in teaching and administrative positions at the Ariel University. She is currently the Head of Quality Assessment and Academic Instruction in Ariel University and the Head of the Israeli Consortium of Faculty Development Centers. Her areas of research interest include academic curriculum development, development of academic instruction, Holocaust awareness and Jewish identity, student exchange programs with Germany and Poland, preservation of the heritage of Jewish sects, and moral education.
Audree Chase-Mayoral, Associate Director of Global Online Graduate Degrees and Training at Lehigh University’s College of Education. She is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University. Marcelo Henrique Carneiro Camilo is a Professor and Director of International Relations at the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN), Brazil. Since 2007, he has worked in the Internationalization of IFRN where he has coordinated partnerships with Fulbright, European Universities, and the Brazilian Mobility Program amongst others. He is currently a professor at the Federal Institute of Triângulo Mineiro and holds the position of rector.
Dr. Regina Aichinger is the Vice Executive Prosident responsible for organisational and staff development, quality management, diversity management, and accounting to the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. In 2011, Dr. Aichinger established a special unit for higher education research and development.
Julie Wright (M Ed) is Course Leader of VET and undergraduate Fashion programs at Holmesglen Institute. In a career spanning more than 30 years, she initially worked in the fashion industry as a Training & Development manager before entering the education sector as a curriculum writer, VET teacher and Higher Ed lecturer. Knowledge acquisition has always been at the heart of Julie’s practice, and her Master’s thesis explored the acquisition of higher order thinking skills in a training package context.

John Widdowson CBE is the Principal of New College Durham, one of the first English colleges to be granted Foundation Degree Awarding Powers by the Privy Council. He has a particular interest in the development of college-based HE to provide alternatives to traditional approaches to higher education.

Is responsible for the Idioms without Borders (ISF) and International Affairs and Language Center Coordinator of the Federal Institute of the Triângulo Mineiro (IFTM).
Tony Tai is the recently retired General Manager of IBM Hong Kong with a 37-year career in leadership across many roles and countries. He is Chair of the VTC Technology and Innovation Training Board. Tony has a particular interest in smart city development. He will address the competencies needed for a digital economy and the strategic activities of the industry Training Board in supporting the VPET mission in Hong Kong.
Erica Smith is a world-leading international expert on apprenticeship, and is co-chair of the International Network for Innovative Apprenticeship research group. She has managed over a dozen national and international research projects on apprenticeship. In recent years, Erica has provided advice to national governments and at international forums.
Gitta joined the National Centre for Education Research (NCVER) in Adelaide, Australia in 2011. She is currently working on digital technology in the workplace, lifelong learning and stackable education. Prior, Gitta worked in online education at various Australian education institutions. She has a PhD in agricultural and environmental sciences and shifted her focus from insect behaviour to human behaviour.
Dr Caroline Seelig has 25 years’ experience as a senior manager in New Zealand’s tertiary education sector, specialising in Open, Distance, Flexible Learning (ODFL) and vocational education. Caroline joined Open Polytechnic as Chief Executive in 2009. She is an Honorary Fellow of the Commonwealth of Learning and a Woolf Fisher Scholar.
Dr. John Sands (Ph.D. Colorado State University) has over 30 years of experience in teaching and developing curriculum in the area of Cybersecurity. He currently serves as the Principal Investigator/Executive Director of the Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA). John holds several industry certifications including CISSP and CCIA.
Jodee Price is the Manager for Skills and Employment at GOTAFE. Jodee has over 25 years experience in the Vocational Education Sector, working for Public and Private providers as well as for Industry and Industry Associations. Jodee is also the Chair of the Goulburn Murray Local learning and Employment Network and has been a member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industries Employment, Education and Training Committee.

Brad manages a large student workforce, and has worked with a number of clients to provide managed services to the education sector.
Dr Karen O’Reilly-Briggs is a qualified boilermaker, pressure vessel welder, pipefitter, welding-inspector and vocational education and training (VET) teacher. In 2012, Karen was awarded La Trobe University’s David Myers Scholarship to pursue full time research in the field of engineering trade VET, and in 2016, graduated as a PhD (Education).
Denise O’Brien held the position of CEO of APTC for over 5 years. Denise now represents TAFE Queensland as the Contractor Representative- Advisor APTC. Denise is passionate about the role TVET plays in assisting people of all ages, regardless of life circumstances, to improve their economic, social and cultural prospects.

Dr Stuart Middleton has worked to achieve equity of access for all learners in TVET programmes in a variety of settings. He was a Fulbright New Century Scholar in 2007-2008 and was awarded an OMNZ for his pioneering work in developing the Tertiary High School model which in turn led to the development of secondary / tertiary programmes in New Zealand.

Professor Caiqin Liu is the Chair of College Council of Xingtai Polytechnic College, in Hebei province in China. Professor Liu has a Doctoral Degree of Higher Education from Huazhong University of Science and Techonology.
Jefferson Ramos de Lima has been a teacher at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pará since 2014. He has a degree in Portuguese and English languages and is a specialist in linguistics applied to teaching English as a foreign language. He is the campus former internship sector chief and has been selected to be the coordinator of the campus language center.

Dr. Sylvia Jenkins became the fifth president of Moraine Valley Community College on July 1, 2012 and was previously vice president, dean, assistant dean and public services librarian at Moraine Valley. She has a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies/Community College Leadership, a MLS and B.S. in English Education.

Sherol George is the Disability Inclusion Coordinator with the Vanuatu Skills Partnership. She currently manages the Training Provider Inclusion Improvement Fund in Vanuatu which is assisting training providers to be more inclusive in skills training and assessment. Sherol holds a Masters in General Special Education from the University of Newcastle.
Dr Sean Gallagher is the inaugural Director of the Centre for the New Workforce at Swinburne University of Technology, a research centre focused on talent development and workforce transformation at the intersection of learning and the future of work. Sean has extensive leadership experience in establishing research and education initiatives.
Professor Valerie Francis is the Chair in Construction in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Construction at the University of Melbourne. She is a civil engineer with practical experience in industry and has a Masters degree in Project Management and a PhD. Her research investigates construction efficiency and factors affecting organisational effectiveness.
John Flett has over 30 years senior management experience in educational design and delivery within the Australian vocational and secondary education systems. He has headed delivery and innovation centres in TAFE; an enterprise registered training provider; and is a member of several industry advisory and community learning and education networks.

Having come from the fashion industry with a Design and Technical background, Ryan Euinton (B Fashion Hns) has been Teaching in the VET & Higher Education arena for 8 years. Donald Elliot has been the manager of Holmesglen’s Vocational College electric car team since 2010. He has taught at TAFE for 40 years and is expert in Plastics/Composites, Engineering and Metal Fabrication. Don has been involved in:- World Solar Challenge – Darwin/Adelaide; World Solar Cycle Challenge – Alice Springs/Adelaide; Sunrace – Adelaide/Sydney and RACV Energy Breakthrough – Maryborough, Victoria.
Dr. Sam Duncan has been a full time lecturer with Holmesglen since 2015. Sam is a dynamic and engaging lecturer, and also a regular media contributor with The Age, the AFL Record, The New Daily and other broadcast mediums. Sam completed a doctorate, conferred in 2016, exploring the relationship between Australian rules football, the community and the growth of the AFL competition as a business enterprise.
Patrick Donahoe is an experienced educator/administrator who is keenly interested in student learning environments and how we encourage learners to assume responsibility for their learning lives. He sits on Surrey’s Local Immigrant Partnership and served as the Chair, Board of Directors, Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment from 2010- 17.
Ross Digby is the Dean of the Faculty of Building, Construction and Engineering at Holmesglen Institute. His area of research focuses on the capabilities required in a mixed sector provider to be competitive in a demand driven eduxation market.
Alex Devine is a Senior Technical Advisor in Disability Inclusion at the Nossal Institute for Global Health, University of Melbourne. Alex works alongside people with disabilities towards the realisation of their rights in a variety of sectors. Alex is currently the Disability Inclusion Advisor to the Kiribati TVET Sector Strengthening Program. Alex is also a PhD candidate, focussing on employment outcomes for people with disability.
Jan is the Course Coordinator for Certificate 1 in Work Education at Holmesglen Institute Victoria, Australia. The student cohort consists of 16 – 24 year olds who present with additional learning needs or disability. The courses primary focus is to support students to pathway into mainstream employment or further study.
Dr Karina Davis has worked in a variety of educational contexts prior to her senior leadership role at Melbourne Polytechnic. This includes working as a teacher, a lecturer and researcher in the University context and as a Head of Faculty. Her current role has her leading key new educational strategy.
Helber Silva is Professor/Outreach Coordinator at the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN), Brazil, especially supporting internationalization activities to integrate students and local society. He is author of more than 20 scientific papers, mainly in the fields of Smart Cities, Smart Grid, Internet of Things and Network Security.
Robbie Coyle is the Course Leader of Holmesglen’s relatively new Sports Degrees, (1) the Bachelor of Sports Media, and (2) Bachelor of Sport Business. Robbie was the recipient of the Holmesglen Innovation and Excellence Award in 2017, primarily for his leadership role with respect to the two degrees which are arguably Australia’s most industry engaged sports degrees.
Prior to his role as Assistant Deputy Minister of Learning at Employment and Social Development Canada, Alexis Conrad served as Executive Director at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. He has also worked at the Privy Council Office and Industry Canada. Alexis holds a Master of Arts degree in Political Studies and a Bachelor of Arts (honours) degree.
John Clayton is an active researcher with interests ranging from situated cognition and work integrated learning, to quality assurance and course design and the design of entrepreneurial education systems. He has facilitated numerous international professional development opportunities in teaching and learning and is currently a research fellow for the Sino-NZ Model Programme project.
Peter has over 20 years’ experience in Sales, Marketing, Strategy and General Management in Australia and internationally. As CEO of Ready Talent, Peter has led major projects and thought leadership across higher education and vocational education sectors, with specific expertise in student experience optimisation and employability initiatives.
Dr. Neil Buddel has over 17 years of experience in the postsecondary system and currently serves as Dean of Students at Centennial College with oversight of the Student Learning, Development, and Engagement portfolio. Neil completed his PhD at the University of Alberta, exploring social class, stories, and the student experience.
Linda has over 30 years experience in the TAFE sector and is passionate about her support of students of all ages and among these, newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers. Carol-Anne is an experienced executive educationalist in Australia and internationally. Professor Bi Yumin is the president of Taishan Polytechnic, and studied at Peking University and University of Pennsylvania. Professor Bi is the recipient of one national prize and two provincial first prizes. Professor Bi is no stranger to the WFCP World Congress, having presented in 2014.

Anthony Bailey is the Contractor Representative for the Tonga Skills for Inclusive Economic Growth Program and Skills Supply Adviser with the Vanuatu Skills Partnership. Anthony has worked in the South Pacific for more than ten years on a number of Australian Aid programs supporting skills sector reform.

John has a proven track record in leading major Australian and international companies including Pacific Brands and Foster’s Group, and in his current roles is working across Government to bring about major reforms to vocational education and training and aged care. Stephen Murgatroyd, PhD FBPsS FRSA is an experienced educational administrator, writer, and entrepreneur.
Formerly Dean of Business at Athabasca University where he launched the world’s first online MBA program in 1993-4, Stephen has worked at The Open University (UK), Canadian University of Dubai, Middlesex University, and Axia Net Media He owns and leads three companies, has written over forty books and over one hundred papers and book chapters and has appeared on television and radio. He has keynoted at conferences in thirty countries and is in demand as a change consultant for higher education.

After 10 years in the Economics Department of the OECD, France, Professor Jamet has joined the Directorate of Education and Skills where she is in charge of the Skills Outlook publication, analysing the role of skills for various economic and social outcomes.
Stephanie is now working on the topic of skills and digitalisation after having published the 2017 edition of the Skills Outlook on skills and Global Value Chains. Prior to that, she has been the head of the Denmark and Sweden desk and has contributed to a project on the economics of climate change.
She is interested in various structural issues including education, labour market and social policies. Before joining the OECD, she worked at the French Ministry of Employment. Stéphanie Jamet holds a Ph.D. in economics from University of Paris I.
David Hughes became Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges in September 2016. Before that he was CEO at Learning and Work Institute, a leading think tank, research and policy organisation which was formed in 2016 from a merger he led between NIACE and Inclusion.
From 2000 to 2011, David worked in senior roles at the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). At the LSC and SFA David led the funding and improvement relationships with colleges and providers and successfully took on trouble-shooting roles to rescue crises in capital funding and Educational Maintenance Allowances.
Prior to that, David worked in the voluntary sector across a wide range of roles and organisations in the UK and Australia, in social housing, co-operatives, welfare, regeneration and community development.
David has held many Board and Committee roles, including a few years as Vice-Chair of the East Midlands Regional Assembly in the 1990s. He played a leading role in establishing the new Education and Training Foundation in 2013 and has established and supported several third sector organisations.
David L. Finegold is the President of Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. He is a scholar and educational entrepreneur who has dedicated his career to education and training reform, designing high-performance organizations, and international comparisons of skill-creation systems and performance.
Before joining Chatham, Dr. Finegold was Chief Academic Officer at American Honors, an organization which seeks to improve the quality and affordability of undergraduate education by building honors colleges in partnership with leading community colleges across the United States. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President for Lifelong Learning and Strategic Growth at Rutgers University. With colleagues from the Tata Institute of Social Science, he was one of the four recipients of the Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative Award to build higher education capacity in India.
Dr. Finegold, a prolific writer of both professional and popular publications, has authored or co-authored seven books and monographs, including Are Skills the Answer? (2001). He has provided policy advice on skills issues to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the U.S., Australian, Canadian, Singapore, Indian, South Korean, and British governments, and was an Atlantic Fellow and Policy Advisor to the Leitch Review, Her Majesty’s Treasury, London.
He holds a doctorate in Politics from University of Oxford.
Stephanie Matseleng Allais is the SARCHi Research Chair of Skills Development at the Centre for Researching Education and Labour, in the School of Education at the University of the Witwatersrand South Africa.
Her research interests are in the sociology of education, policy, education and development, curriculum, and political economy of education, focused on relationships between education and work.
Prior to joining Wits University Professor Allais was a fellow at the Centre for Educational Sociology at the University of Edinburgh. Immediately prior to that, she managed and conducted research for an international research project comparing qualifications frameworks in 16 countries, for the International Labour Organization.
Professor Allais has been Special Advisor to the South African Minister of Higher Education and Training, and is currently advising the Department of Higher Education and Training on a national 15 year plan for the South African post-school education and training system.
She has a PhD in education policy from Wits University in South Africa. She is the author of Selling Education Out: National Qualifications Frameworks and the abandonment of Knowledge (2014) and, with Y. Shalem, Knowledge, curriculum, and preparation for work (2018, forthcoming).
Leigh Sales is an award-winning author and journalist at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and currently anchors the prime time flagship program 7.30. From 2001 to 2005, she was the ABC’s Washington Correspondent, covering stories including the aftermath of September 11, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the 2004 Presidential election and Hurricane Katrina. From 2006 to 2008, Leigh was the ABC’s National Security Correspondent, before becoming the anchor of Lateline.
In 2005, Leigh won a Walkley Award, Australia’s highest journalism honour, for her coverage of Guantanamo Bay and the case of David Hicks. In 2012 Leigh was again presented the prestigious Walkley Award for best interviews for her work on 7.30.
